Deep-Dish Pizza Recipe
Ingredients:
For the Dough:
3 1/4 cups (400g) all-purpose flour
1/4 cup (30g) cornmeal
2 1/4 tsp (7g) instant yeast
1 1/4 cups (300ml) warm water
1/4 cup (60ml) olive oil
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp salt
For the Sauce:
1 tbsp olive oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 can (400g) crushed tomatoes
1 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp dried oregano
1/2 tsp dried basil
Salt and pepper to taste
For the Toppings:
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1 cup cooked ground beef or Italian sausage
1/2 cup sliced pepperoni
Optional: diced onions, bell peppers, mushrooms, or other toppings of choice
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Dough:
1. Mix the flour, cornmeal, yeast, sugar, and salt in a bowl.
2. Gradually add warm water and olive oil while mixing until a dough forms.
3. Knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth. Place in an oiled bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
2. Make the Sauce:
1. Heat olive oil in a saucepan. Sauté garlic for 30 seconds.
2. Add crushed tomatoes, sugar, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Set aside.
3. Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan:
1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
2. Grease a deep 9-inch or 10-inch round pan with olive oil.
4. Assemble the Pizza:
1. Roll out the dough and press it into the prepared pan, pushing it up the sides to form a crust.
2. Layer 1 cup of mozzarella cheese on the bottom.
3. Spread a layer of ground beef/sausage over the cheese.
4. Spoon sauce over the meat evenly.
5. Add another layer of mozzarella cheese and your choice of toppings like pepperoni.
5. Bake:
1. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
2. Let it cool for 5 minutes before slicing.
